ABOUT SANDI CARROLL
a composite photo of Sandi then and now
Sandi created this self-portrait by printing two different negatives on the same piece of photographic paper in her darkroom while studying at Humboldt State University. She planned and executed the composite of a photograph she took of herself with a photograph her father had taken of her as a child.

Sandi Carroll offers a candid photojournalistic approach to photography. She provides high quality digital photographic services, color or black and white, for a flat rate, which includes images that are yours to keep. She believes that once you have paid a fair price for her services, the images should be yours to reproduce as you see fit, without additional charge. You will receive a CD with all your photos, a "contact sheet" and printing rights.

Sandi became fascinated with photography as a child watching her father develop and print images from his 4X5 Speed Graphic camera in their utility room and she soon had her first Brownie camera.

She became seriously interested in photography while attending Humboldt State University in Arcata, Calif., where she earned her bachelor's degree. Sandi studied theater arts, cinematography and photography at Humboldt. "I took every photography class they offered and set up my first darkroom so I could make prints any time of day or night," she recalls.

After moving to New Smyrna Beach in 1989, she started working as a photographer and darkroom technician for The Observer. Sandi remembers those days as a wonderful opportunity to not only shoot photographs on assignment in town, but at Kennedy Space Center and at the NASCAR races at Daytona International Speedway.

In 1993 she became the community/lifestyle editor for the paper and started working very closely with local art organizations, clubs, schools, businesses, and all the groups that make up the social fabric of Southeast Volusia County.

Covering local events became her passion and she was the creative force behind the launch of Smyrna Breeze, a new weekly newspaper in 2003. In the spring of 2005 she became editor of The Observer Newspapers, which included the daily paper, The Observer; and two weeklies, Smyrna Breeze and The Edge.

Sandi's duties, heading up a newsroom with a staff of five, left her little time to get out of the office to personally cover local events. "I missed showing up around the community with my camera, notebook and tape recorder," she said. "So, I returned to providing content, photographs and editing the Breeze in September 2006.

Sandi also became the official volunteer photographer for the Little Theatre of New Smyrna Beach for its 2006-2007 season, taking cast shots of all eight productions, the Hammy Awards and Volunteer Recognition Ceremony. Visit the Little Theatre Web site at www.NsbPlayers.org. She will continue taking pictures for its 2007-2008 season.

The year 2007 has brought change - including this new Web site - and the opportunity for Sandi to do more personal and commercial photography.
