Occident holds its traditional annual luncheon with over 500 retired employees

"The insurer reaffirmed its commitment to those who have contributed to the company’s growth over the decades with an emotional gathering held in both Madrid and Barcelona"

Occident has once again paid tribute to its history and to those who helped build it by holding its traditional annual luncheon for retired employees. This year’s edition brought together over 500 participants across Barcelona and Madrid to take part in this heartfelt event, which the company has been organising for more than sixty years as a gesture of gratitude to those who devoted their careers to the company's development.

The event in Barcelona took place on Friday 11 April at the Gran Meliá Torre Melina hotel, with more than 350 people in attendance. Meanwhile, the Madrid gathering is being held today, 22 May, at the historic Hotel Wellington, with nearly 150 retired company employees in attendance. Both the Barcelona and Madrid events are carefully organised and characterised by a warm and heartfelt atmosphere, filled with reunions, shared anecdotes, and institutional recognition of a lifetime of professional dedication.

GCO Chairman José María Serra and Occident’s Director of Personnel, Talent and Culture, Xavier Portales, addressed the attendees, highlighting the crucial role retired employees have played in the evolution of the Group.

“This event symbolises the respect we hold for those who have been part of Occident’s story. Each of you has contributed, through your effort and commitment, to the fact that today we can celebrate over 160 years as a company”, Serra said during his speech. Portales, for his part, stressed that “the legacy of our retirees is a constant source of inspiration. Their example and values remain embedded in the company’s culture and serve as the finest reference for both current and future generations”.

Beyond its commemorative nature, this annual luncheon has become a key moment for strengthening the bond between the company and its community of retired employees. It is a chance to share memories, stay in touch, and reinforce a sense of belonging that transcends working life. Through initiatives like this, Occident demonstrates its commitment to a corporate culture based on recognition, closeness, and caring for people.
