Occident renews its agent recruitment and training programme to foster talent and entrepreneurship in the insurance sector

"The Entrepreneurs Programme (Driving Agents Towards Professional Success), from which the vast majority of the company’s current agents have emerged, offers a route to guided entrepreneurship that is flexible and supported both financially and through training."

Occident has announced the renewal and a new name for its professional agents programme, now called the Entrepreneurs Programme (Driving Agents Towards Professional Success), a pioneering initiative in the Spanish insurance sector that, since its creation in 1984, has been the driving force behind the growth of its mediation network. This renewal aims to adapt the programme to new professional and social realities and attract individuals with a commercial mindset, client focus, and entrepreneurial spirit, who wish to build a career in the insurance sector with the backing of a leading company like Occident.

Over its four decades of activity, the Entrepreneurs Programme has become one of Occident’s main drivers of growth: the vast majority of its current exclusive agents started through this programme, demonstrating its success in providing professional, personalised service to clients and its strategic role in the company’s expansion.

Entrepreneurship with support and flexibility

With the update of the Entrepreneurs Programme, Occident reinforces its commitment to talent and the professionalisation of its commercial network. From day one, participants receive financial support, continuous training, commercial mentoring, and cutting-edge technological tools—key factors in ensuring a gradual and sustainable integration into the insurance business.

The new model lasts up to six years, allowing candidates to gain a thorough understanding of the insurance agent profession while enhancing their technical knowledge, commercial skills, and awareness of client needs. In the final phase, participants reinforce the business management skills required to eventually lead their own office in the medium term.

In addition to its educational focus, the Entrepreneurs Programme stands apart by offering a career path characterised by flexibility and work–life balance. This approach allows agents to organise their workday and manage their responsibilities independently, facilitating a balance between professional development and personal life.

For Occident’s Agency Channel Director, Josep Riera, “this new programme reflects our commitment to the professional and personal growth of those who choose to launch their careers at Occident. It opens a new chapter full of opportunities for those with a service-oriented mindset towards people and businesses, who want to pursue entrepreneurship in the insurance sector with support, training, and flexibility”.

Continuous, high-quality training

Initial training includes official accreditation from the DGSFP, a mandatory requirement to work as an insurance mediator in Spain. Training is delivered in various formats—both virtual and in-person—and involves specialised trainers and external consultants. The training plan provides a structured programme that unfolds throughout the agent’s career, adapting to the different stages of professional development, and covering technical, commercial, and management content.

The relaunch of the Entrepreneurs Programme forms part of Occident’s strategy to expand its mediation network within the company’s 2025–2027 Strategic Plan. Its aim is to continue promoting the professional agent as a key pillar of the business model and client relationship, while attracting talent committed to excellence and to protecting people.
