Musky launches specific insurance for cats that live exclusively indoors

Musky, the veterinary insurance start-up for dogs and cats from GCO Ventures, announces the launch of Indoor Cat Insurance, a new product designed specifically for cats that spend their entire lives at home. Under the claim 'Their world is at home. Their insurance should be too', the company takes another step in its product specialisation strategy, adjusting coverage to the real risks of this pet profile and offering a more competitive price without sacrificing essential protection and the elements that pet owners value most in veterinary insurance, such as free choice of vet, reimbursement in less than 72 hours, and complete preventive coverage.

'The market has traditionally insured cats using the same logic as for dogs, without taking into account that their lifestyle is radically different. A cat that doesn't leave the house doesn't face the same risks as one with access to the outside world, and at Musky we've adapted the product to this reality: adjusted coverage and up to 17% cheaper', explains Milena Villanueva, Insurance Lead at Musky. 'Personalisation will be one of the great evolutions in veterinary insurance. Not all animals live the same lives, and therefore it doesn’t make sense for them all to pay for the same coverage', Villanueva adds.

The coverage includes:

• Domestic accidents: falls, blows, ingestion of foreign bodies, burns and any traumatic injury occurring inside the home.
• Falls from windows or balconies of their own home are one of the most frequent risks for indoor cats.
• Common diseases (digestive, respiratory, renal, dermatological and other frequent conditions), with an 80% reimbursement of veterinary expenses.
• Annual check-up and mandatory vaccinations, 100% covered at no additional cost.

The insurance works on a reimbursement basis and can be requested through the Musky app. The waiting period is just 5 days for accidents and 25 days for illnesses.

By eliminating coverage that an indoor cat doesn’t need, including accidents on public roads, being hit by a car, or fights outside the home, Musky creates a more efficient product: 'It’s not about covering less, but about designing a smarter insurance policy. A cat that doesn’t leave the house has a completely different risk profile than a cat that goes outside, and we believe that its insurance policy should reflect that difference, both in coverage and in price', explains Milena Villanueva.

The new insurance can be purchased 100% online at musky.es from €20.93/month, depending on the cat's age at the time of purchase, by simply providing the basic details of the animal (name, breed, age and sex) and the owner.

A market undergoing a complete transformation

The launch comes at a time of strong growth in pet-specific insurance in Spain. According to the report 'Pet insurance. 2025', prepared by the entity Cooperative Research between Insurance Companies and Pension Funds (ICEA) with the participation of 18 insurers representing 63% of the market, the volume of premiums for specific pet products grew by 34.3% in 2025. In addition, pet insurance policies grew by 18.3% during the same period. These figures confirm that Spanish families are increasingly turning to veterinary insurance to cover their animals' health expenses.

On top of that, the feline population in Spain continues to grow. According to the progress of the first National Statistics on Animal Protection from the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030, launched in early June 2026, there are already 5,619,967 cats registered in Spanish households, 37% of the more than 15 million pets in the country. Many of these cats, especially in urban environments, spend their entire lives inside, increasing the demand for insurance products tailored to that lifestyle.
