Medical assistance, incidents involving luggage and minor illnesses: the most commonly used coverage by travellers insured with Occident

"The United States, Italy and Spain top the list of destinations for which this insurance is most purchased"
With summer just around the corner, and with a notable upswing in travel insurance purchases, Occident has reviewed the profile of insured travellers using data from its current portfolio. This analysis allows us to identify both the geographic preferences and the coverage most used by insured parties while travelling, providing a clear view of their actual habits and needs.
By origin, the travellers who most purchase travel insurance with Occident live in Catalonia, followed by the Valencian Community, Andalusia, the Basque Country, Madrid and Galicia. Furthermore, the average length of insured trips is 29 days, reflecting extended planning, especially during holiday periods such as summer, Easter, or major long weekends. As for the most popular destinations, the United States tops the ranking, followed by Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and Morocco.
Medical assistance, luggage and illnesses among the most commonly used coverage
An analysis of processed claims reveals that the most frequently used coverage by Occident insured parties includes medical assistance for illness, loss or delay in locating luggage, and care for minor illnesses such as gastroenteritis or bites. This pattern of use is consistent with industry data: according to Unespa, more than 57% of travel insurance claims are related to health issues.
Regarding the method of taking out insurance, the role of mediators is essential: 90% of policies are managed through agents or brokers, reflecting customer confidence in personalised and expert advice.
According to Sergio López, Director of Personal Insurance at Occident, "our goal is to offer insurance that adapts to new ways of travelling and the real concerns of our customers. We want everyone who travels to do so with peace of mind, knowing they are protected against any unforeseen event".
