"The insurer thanks its employees for their commitment and reaffirms its determination to continue generating positive change in the community."
Occident has joined the celebrations for International Volunteer Day – held every 5 December since it was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 1986 – by taking stock of the solidarity initiatives the insurer has carried out throughout 2025. The Institution closed the year with a total of 721 hours devoted to creating a positive impact, a figure made possible thanks to the active participation of its workforce.
“Volunteering allows us to be directly involved in improving our surroundings and to support initiatives that generate a real impact in the community. The commitment shown this year reflects our teams’ determination to contribute actively to social wellbeing”, said Xavier Portales, Head of People, Talent and Culture at Occident.
This year’s Occident volunteer programme has been carried out across various areas in collaboration with several leading organisations. In the environmental field, a highlight was CleanUp Day, organised together with Fundación Occident and the ECOMAR Foundation, during which more than 700 kilos of waste were collected from beaches and reservoirs in Getxo, Madrid and Barcelona.
In the social and educational sphere, the company promoted initiatives such as Voluntariado Exit, where employees acted as coaches for young people at risk of exclusion to help them identify their career potential. Cheers4U also took place, an inclusive gymkhana in which employees worked side by side with neurodiverse individuals, who led the challenges to be overcome. Finally, together with UNESPA and Junior Achievement, the Risk and Me programme was developed, aimed at helping teens aged 15 to 17 manage risk and the emotions associated with it.
