"The geographical area with the highest volume of insured leasing policies is the province of Barcelona, with SUVs and passenger cars being the most popular vehicle types."
Occident has analysed the profile of its leasing customers, revealing that the average age for taking out this type of service is between 51 and 55 years old, representing 20% of the total. Furthermore, according to the data analysed, 89% are personal customers, including individuals and self-employed workers, while the remaining 11% are legal entities (companies and other types of entities).
The geographical area with the highest volume of insured leasing policies is the province of Barcelona, accounting for 28.4% of the total number of insured parties. Completing the top three are Valencia and Madrid, with 18.2% and 6.8% respectively, followed by Alicante, Bizkaia, Almería, and Guipúzcoa, with 4.5% each, which coincides with urban areas with good online channel penetration.
The most popular vehicle types for this type of Occident policy are SUV models and passenger cars, with 59% and 28% respectively, followed by light commercial vehicles (13%). In around half of the cases, the average mileage insured per year is the 10,000 km option
Meanwhile, the majority of customers (57.3%) opt for petrol vehicles. However, customers who prefer a hybrid electric vehicle (petrol and electric) now represent the second option at 24%, followed by those who prefer diesel (18.7%).
Contract duration and added services
The average duration of leasing contracts insured by Occident is around 60 months in half of cases. It's worth noting that the company recently introduced a 72-month contract option, so implementation is still limited, although increased customer interest is expected.
When it comes to added services, most customers look for simplicity and essential coverage. Occident has recently added the option of purchasing replacement vehicle coverage in the event of an accident, thus addressing a common shortcoming among some leasing providers. The company also offers the possibility of recovering driving licence points after a partial loss.
A profile that continues to grow
Industry data supports the evolution of the leasing service. According to the Spanish Association of Vehicle Leasing (AER, Asociación Española de Renting de Vehículos), leasing now accounts for 25.68% of all registrations in Spain. In terms of type, electric vehicles (pure electric, plug-in hybrid, and extended-range) now account for 13.23% of leasing registrations, an increase of 52.27% compared to the previous year, demonstrating the sector's commitment to sustainable mobility.
