Occident updates its Travel policy with new categories, coverage, and increased insured capital

"The insurer launches the Essential Travellers category and increases coverage for medical expenses abroad to €1.5 million in the Exclusive option"

Occident has refreshed its Travel insurance policy, right in the middle of the summer season, with the aim of offering more comprehensive, flexible protection tailored to travellers' needs. In this way, the insurer has incorporated new policy categories, increased medical expense coverage, and strengthened existing coverage.

Regarding coverage, highlights include the increase in medical expenses abroad, reaching €500,000 in the Comprehensive category and €1.5 million in the Exclusive category. In addition, one of the main new features is the creation of the Essential Travellers offer, with coverage of €150,000. This is an option designed for travellers seeking protection that guarantees peace of mind during a trip within Spain or Europe, but without having to take on unnecessary coverage.

For its part, the Cruise category has extended onboard medical assistance to €50,000 and hospital transfers in case of emergency to €25,000; additionally, relocation expenses due to cruise cancellation, among others, are included.

As part of the updates, the cancellation cover has also been improved, raising the maximum insured capital to €15,000, expanding the number of cases covered from 28 to 43, and updating the companion clause to include more people linked to the same reservation. Likewise, trip interruption coverage is strengthened by aligning its causes with causes for cancellation, allowing for greater efficiency in protecting insured parties.

In the words of Occident's Director of Personal Insurance, Sergio López, "following the excellent response to our Travel product, with this update we reiterate our commitment to offering more comprehensive protection solutions, tailored to our customers' needs and with the highest guarantees". He also stated that "at Occident, we are committed to innovation and continuous improvement in our products, and we will continue working to offer the best products to protect our customers on all types of trips".

As a courtesy service, all categories in the range offer free telephone legal advice and telephone medical advice, two services that are very well received by Occident’s customers.

Profile of the insured traveller

Occident travel insurance, available through the leisure, cruise and student categories, is tailored to different profiles and allows for additional coverage such as trip cancellation, sports coverage, or medical care for pre-existing conditions.

The company recently announced the profile of its insured parties for this type of policy. According to its data, the most commonly used coverage is medical assistance, incidents involving luggage, and treatment for minor illnesses. Furthermore, the most popular destinations are the United States, Italy and Spain, while the regions with the highest number of insured parties are Catalonia, the Valencian Community and Andalusia.
