Occident improves its home insurance by incorporating a pioneering preventive unblocking service on the market

Occident reiterates its commitment to innovation and prevention in the insurance sector by incorporating a new service into its home insurance coverage: preventive cleaning of drainpipes. This preventive service, which the company already offers its owner association insurance policyholders, is completely pioneering in Home insurance policies, as Occident is the only insurer on the market to offer this service thus providing added value in this area.

Available as optional coverage in home policies for single-family homes (terraced, detached and prefabricated), this annual service aims to prevent blockages and minimise water damage, one of the most common incidents and the one that causes the most problems for customers. In fact, according to Unespa, water damage represents 37.2% of home insurance claims, followed a long way behind by damage to glass (14.4%), electrical damage (9.3%) and damage caused by atmospheric phenomena (5.3%).  

A comprehensive service, adapted to each home

Preventive cleaning of private drainpipes is carried out by specialist technicians and includes the cost of travel and first hour of labour. Depending on the complexity of the property, if more time is required, not a usual occurrence in most cases, advantageous conditions are applied for the customer.

The intervention includes a visual inspection, the verification of catch basins and siphons, the cleaning of the siphonic shafts, the application of degreasing liquid, camera inspection of the final sections and the cleaning of the work area, ending with the application of air freshener. The service also includes specific solutions for more complex situations: if the catch basin is hidden, it is located by detector and marked with erasable paint; if the siphon tubes don't have a trap cover, a PVC cover can be installed at no cost to facilitate future cleaning.

According to the director of Private Insurance, Sergio López, “the incorporation of the preventive unblocking service in our single-family home insurance policies demonstrates Occident's commitment to preventive services as a formula for providing added value to our insured parties through innovative and sustainable solutions.” 

A consolidated service in owner association insurance

The preventive unblocking service, which Occident has offered as part of its owner association insurance since 2019, has been widely accepted by customers due to its effectiveness in reducing water damage claims. With this initiative, Occident strengthens its prevention strategy as a key tool to improving its customer experience.
