Occident renews its sponsorship with the Joan Miró Foundation

"The insurer extends its support to the Foundation for the second consecutive year following the collaboration initiated on the artistic institution's 50th anniversary."

Occident has renewed its collaboration agreement with the Joan Miró Foundation, continuing its link with the prestigious art centre and reinforcing its commitment to promoting culture and disseminating the legacy of Joan Miró, one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. With this renewal, the insurer reaffirms its commitment to the promotion of art and bringing it closer to society through leading cultural projects.

In the words of Occident's Marketing and Communication Director, Berta Solé, 'at Occident we believe that both art and culture in general are drivers of cohesion, inspiration and progress. Renewing this sponsorship is a way to continue contributing to ensuring that institutions like the Joan Miró Foundation remain vibrant, open spaces connected to the community.'

For his part, the Director of the Joan Miró Foundation, Marko Daniel, stated: 'with the support of Occident and the rest of the companies that form part of the Miró Council, we not only commemorate our legacy, but also lay the foundations for the next 50 years of the institution. Our commitment is to ensure the conservation of the collection, the improvement of the building and the strengthening of the Foundation as a living space for future generations.'

Occident, patron of the Joan Miró Foundation on its 50th anniversary

The collaboration between the two entities began in 2025 when Occident signed an agreement with the Joan Miró Foundation to become a patron of the art centre on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, a celebration that extends until June 2026. Within this framework, the insurer joined the Miró Council, an initiative that brings together companies and institutions committed to the Foundation to support cultural, educational and social projects.

In 2025, the institution received 311,704 visitors, organised 13 exhibitions with 285 works from 77 international collections, and registered 26,086 attendees at cultural activities and 16,965 students in educational programmes, reinforcing its role as an international benchmark for modern and contemporary art.

2026: architecture, contemporary creation and cultural projection

The renewal of the agreement will allow Occident to continue supporting the Joan Miró Foundation in a new stage of its programming. In 2026, the institution will continue celebrating its 50th anniversary, with architecture as the central focus of its activities, coinciding with Barcelona as World Capital of Architecture and the celebration of Gaudí Year 2026. This programmatic line will build on the legacy of Josep Lluís Sert and will unfold through different exhibitions and cultural projects.

Among the main new features for 2026 are a new presentation of the Collection, in dialogue between Joan Miró and Sert’s architecture; the first monographic exhibition in Spain of Kapwani Kiwanga, winner of the ninth edition of the Joan Miró Prize; the first major retrospective dedicated to Charlotte Perriand; and a programme that will champion architecture as a tool for thinking about the present, reading the past, and projecting new cultural horizons.
