"The insurer is also continuing to expand and refine the services it delivers through Your Digital Health which has seen a sharp upturn in use in 2024"
To improve its value proposition and step up its commitment to the present and future wellbeing of its insured parties, Occident has upgraded its Healthcare, Mixed Reimbursement and Prime Reimbursement health policies with the inclusion of new diagnostic tests and surgical procedures. This means that from 2025 onwards, existing and new customers will have access to the most innovative procedures and treatments.
In terms of diagnostic tests, the insurer has added specific tests in cardiology and cardiovascular surgery to its coverage. In particular, Occident has included coverage for CT coronary calcium scoring, a test which measures how much calcium is in your coronary arteries. This test harnesses powerful X-ray equipment to diagnose a range of heart conditions and does not require surgical incisions or recovery time.
The company has also included new chemotherapy cancer treatments. Customers will have access to various routes of administration for chemotherapy treatments, whether intrathecal, intravesical or intraperitoneal, making for better follow-up and personalised treatment for insured parties.
"We are fully committed to the wellbeing of our insured parties," said Oihane Susperregui, head of Personal Life and Health Products at Occident. "This means we are constantly striving to upgrade and craft the best products and services.” Furthermore, “health insurance is one of our strategic lines of business.”
Your Digital Health
One of Occident's core commitments in its health line of business in 2024 has been to ramp up digital healthcare with new features such as the introduction of immediate video consultations in general medicine and the extension of scheduled video consultations to more specialities including dermatology, gynaecology and endocrinology. This commitment has been backed by a substantial increase in the number of insured parties using its Your Digital Health service. More specifically, this year the figure for registered medical chats has tripled while scheduled video consultations have grown sevenfold compared to 2023.
The authorisation application process has also recently been improved with the rollout of a new, faster, simpler and more intuitive system. In 2024, Occident has registered more than 200,000 authorisations through its e-customer app and website.
Over the past year, Occident has additionally made several upgrades to its health insurance coverage and services. For example, it has increased reimbursement for medicines (generic and non-generic) up to 80% of the bill with an annual cap of €250 coupled with reimbursement for gynaecology and paediatrics consultations at up to €60 per visit. It has also added new covers such as advanced laser and radiofrequency surgeries and enhanced the digital services in its app by expanding its coverage abroad with the inclusion of 13 new countries.
