Occident updates its collective health insurance policy for companies

"The policy provides employees and family members with private medical and dental care without copayments, as well as unlimited access to Your digital health."

Occident updates Salud collective healthcare, its health insurance policy designed specifically for companies. This new policy, which offers private medical care through an extensive medical directory, provides protection to workers from large, medium and small companies. It also allows them to add immediate family members, specifically their spouse and children.

Employees of companies that take out this policy will have full coverage in all medical specialities, including psychology and podiatry, as well as preventive medicine (prostate, lung, heart screening, etc.), special treatments and extensive coverage of internal prostheses. It also includes the most advanced diagnostic methods and coverage for work-related accidents, traffic accidents and occupational diseases. All with no copayments.

The policy provides access to a medical directory of around 50,000 professionals and 450 medical centres and hospitals throughout Spain, including 35 of the 40 most highly rated private hospitals according to the Merco ranking. The centres include Clínica Universidad de Navarra (Pamplona and Madrid), several hospitals in the Quirón Salud group (Madrid, Barcelona and other cities), Teknon, Clínica La Luz and hospitals in the HM Hospitales group.

The new policy also includes access to a complete dental directory; as well as travel assistance, to protect insured parties in the event of an accident or illness. It should be noted that collective health insurance can offer tax relief, both for employees and for companies.

Oihane Susperregui, Director of Individual Life Risk and Health Insurance Products at Occident, explains: “the rise in collective health insurance is driven by several factors, including greater public awareness of well-being and health; and the growing demand for companies to offer health insurance to their workforce, aware that it has become one of the most valued welfare benefits for employees". In this regard, Oihane Susperregui added that "with this launch, we not only supplement our health insurance offer, but we continue to make progress in our ambition to offer insurance solutions that meet the current needs of companies and individuals".

Health insurance on the rise

In recent years, health insurance in Spain has experienced constant evolution and growth. According to ICEA data, around 29% of the Spanish population - 14 million people - currently have private health insurance, which is much higher than the 8.9 million insured parties in 2013, which represented 19% of the total population. In this context, collective health insurance in Spain has also seen significant growth, exceeding the growth of individual insurance policies. In 2024, collective insurance policies grew by 9.9% in premiums, while individual health insurance policies increased by 6.5% in premiums.

Growth in digital health

The Salud collective healthcare policy includes access to "Your digital health", the health service available through Occident's E-cliente app. This service provides 24-hour care through medical chats, and allows policyholders to have video medical consultations, consult the medical directory, request authorisations and tests, and manage reports.

"Your digital health" is currently very popular amongst Occident customers. The scheduled video consultation service has a satisfaction score of 98.6%, and during 2024 the number of video consultations was up to 7 times higher compared to the previous year. Similarly, the number of consultations by chat tripled compared to 2023.

Specifically, one of Occident's commitments in the health sector is to reinforce digital healthcare. For this reason, in recent months the insurer has incorporated various coverage and services and is constantly promoting improvements. General medicine consultations are currently available via instant video consultations, and scheduled video consultations are available with specialists. The insurer has also improved the authorisation application process with the rollout of a new, faster, simpler and more intuitive system.
