"Around 150 Occident employees collected more than 1.4 tonnes of waste at a new edition of its corporate volunteering programme "
Occident has held a new edition of its corporate volunteering programme in collaboration with Fundación Ecomar, underlining its commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and the circular economy. During the three "Clean Up Days" organised on the beaches of Getxo (Bizkaia), El Prat de Llobregat (Barcelona), and Alberche beach (Aldea del Fresno, Madrid), around 150 employees from Occident, Crédito y Caución and GCO Ventures helped clean up beaches and natural spaces. Thanks to their involvement, 1,419.68 kilos of waste were removed from beaches and natural environments.
The first day took place in Getxo (Bizkaia), where 37 employees gathered to clean Arrigunaga beach. 154 kilos of waste were collected during this activity, 12.12% more than in the previous event. Of this amount, 49 kg was debris, 21.4 kg was glass, 32.8 kg was plastic containers, 45.8 kg was waste matter, and 5 kg was paper, in addition to more than 1,800 cigarette butts being removed from the coastal area.
The second meeting, held on 10 October, saw 41 employees participate in the event on the beach at El Prat de Llobregat (Barcelona), where a record 388.88 kg of waste was collected, representing a 218% increase compared to last year. On this occasion, 276.2 kg of debris, 3 kg of glass, 39.3 kg of plastic containers, 50.38 kg of waste matter, and 20 kg of paper were collected, in addition to more than 1,800 cigarette butts.
The final day took place on 24 October at the Alberche river beach (Aldea del Fresno, Madrid), where 876.8 kilos of waste were removed, 276% more than last year. Of this total, 661.4 kg was debris, 113 kg was waste matter, 62.6 kg was plastic containers, 31.4 kg was glass, 8.4 kg was paper, and 1,700 cigarette butts were collected along the riverbank.
In addition to the cleaning tasks, each day included a training workshop on recycling and responsible consumption, in which participants answered questions about how to properly separate waste and learned guidelines for applying the three Rs (reduce, reuse, and recycle) in their daily lives.
Theresa Zabell, president of Fundación Ecomar, wanted to thank Occident for its commitment to this initiative: "It’s been wonderful to see everyone’s level of involvement in the experience. Beyond cleaning beaches and wetlands, these events serve to raise awareness about how small actions, such as recycling or reusing, are key to caring for the planet".
With these actions, Occident, Crédito y Caución and GCO Ventures continue to boost their social and environmental commitment, encouraging the active participation of their employees in initiatives that contribute to generating a positive impact on the environment.
